The North Getting its Escalation in First?

General Walter L. “Skip” Sharp, current Commander, U.S. Forces Korea, has reported that North Korea is deploying some form of new intermediate range missile capable of getting at US forces in Guam and on Okinawa. It can make Alaska, too.  The news adds to the sequence of everyday tension-esacalting events – such as yesterday’s detention of two American journalists in the Yale river region, the South’s threat to sign up to the more proactive clauses of the PSI agrement, the ongoing problems of communication and exchange of materials and workers at the Kaesong industrial complex- which, together, suggest that this thing is going to happen unless the US offers something very big, the Chinese threaten something very consequential, or, via the not impossible scenario of technological failure at the launch base, the North shoots itself in the foot.
